Southern Sausage Gravy is creamy, savory, and downright delicious. It’s one of those stick-to-your-ribs kind of breakfasts that warms you up from the inside out. There is no better way to start your day than with a bowl full of fluffy buttermilk biscuits topped with this southern gravy.
Servings: 6
INGREDIENTS
1 pound hot and spicy breakfast sausage
2 tablespoons butter
¼ cup flour
3-3½ cups whole milk
2 teaspoons black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon Slap Ya Mama® seasoning
½ teaspoon paprika
Salt and pepper, to taste
STEPS
1) In a large skillet, add breakfast sausage. Using a spatula, break up sausage while cooking over medium heat.
2) Once the sausage is completely cooked, add butter into the pan.
3) Sprinkle flour, Slap Ya Mama®, pepper, and garlic powder over sausage and stir until well coated. Continue stirring and let flour cook for about 2-3 minutes.
4) Pour in milk while stirring constantly. Once milk is fully incorporated, reduce heat and simmer until the gravy thickens.
NOTES
Reheating : I like to warm leftover gravy in a skillet or pot on the stove over medium heat, stirring often so it heats evenly. If it’s too thick, just splash in a little milk to loosen it up. The microwave works too if you’re short on time.
Brown the Flour : Let the flour cook and brown slightly before adding the milk. This step deepens the flavor and keeps your gravy from tasting like raw flour.
