(3 oz.) cold unsalted butter, cubed<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">1\/4 cup vegetable shortening (such as Crisco)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">1 1\/4 cups whole buttermilk<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">2 Tbsp. salted butter, melted<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">STEPS<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Combine dry ingredients:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">1) Preheat oven to 475\u00b0F. Whisk together flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl until no lumps remain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Cut butter and shortening into dry ingredients:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">1) Add cold butter and shortening; use a pastry cutter to cut butter and shortening into flour mixture until fully coated and butter is the size of peas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Add buttermilk:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">1) Gradually add buttermilk; stir until just combined. (Batter should be wet but hold some structure.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Scoop biscuits:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">1) Scoop golf ball-sized portions (about 2 heaping tablespoons each) onto a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing 1 to 2 inches apart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">2) Evenly brush tops of biscuits with melted butter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Bake biscuits:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">1) Bake in preheated oven until golden brown, 14 to 16 minutes, rotating baking sheet halfway through bake time.
