Winston Churchill’s Favourite’s

Reels – Churchill’s Favourites

Winston Churchill’s eating habits were notoriously indulgent, regimented, and marked by a high intake of alcohol, fine dining, and cigars. Starting with breakfast in bed at 7:30 a.m., he consumed a multi-course lunch with champagne, took afternoon naps, held late-night dinners, and favored hearty British comfort foods like roast beef.

Breakfast (in bed): Included bacon, eggs, toast, jams, coffee, and a “weak” whiskey and soda (labeled “Papa cocktails”).

Drinks & Alcohol: He drank throughout the day. He consumed roughly 3-4 whiskey sodas daily, an imperial pint of Pol Roger Champagne with lunch and dinner, and cognac/brandy after meals.

Lunch: A multi-course, substantial meal often enjoyed with family or guests, typically paired with champagne.

Dinner: A late-night affair (often 8:00 p.m. or later), featuring courses such as clear soup, oysters, roast beef, or lamb, accompanied by champagne and wine.

Favorite Foods: He preferred traditional British dishes, particularly roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, and gravy. He was less fond of creamy sauces.

Cigars: He smoked 8 to 10 cigars per day, usually lighting up after meals.

Mid-day Routine: After lunch, he would work, nap for 1.5 hours (starting around 5:00 p.m.), and then work again late into the night.
