Seither’s Seafood is a highly-rated, family-owned restaurant and fresh-fish market in Harahan, LA, known for blending traditional Louisiana seafood with creative, “mad scientist” twists.
History & Origins
Founding (2004): Owner Jason Seither opened the business in 2004 after leaving a career in car sales.
The “Cursed” Location: The restaurant occupies a building that previously housed over half a dozen failed businesses in a single decade. Despite warnings that the spot was “cursed,” Seither grew the business from a small market into a full restaurant within his first year.
Cultural Roots: Seither grew up on the bayou, learning to boil crawfish with his father and cook with his mother. His professional experience includes time as a bartender and waiter before launching his own venture.
Accolades: The restaurant gained national fame after being featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Season 29, Episode 13). It is a multi-year winner at the Oak Street Po-Boy Festival and has been recognized for having some of the best boiled crawfish in the state.
Menu Highlights:
The menu is divided between classic Louisiana staples and unique “Chef’s Creations” that incorporate Asian and Mexican influences.
Signature Creations:
The Volcano: An “upside-down” Asian-style taco salad featuring fresh ahi tuna, shrimp, and crab salad inside a fried shell.
The Totem Pole: A towering stack of fried eggplant, crabmeat stuffing, crispy soft-shell crab, and a shrimp kabob.
Delacroix Nachos: Homemade chips topped with blackened fish and a variety of toppings.
Award-Winning Po-Boys:
Voodoo Fish & Chips: Redfish and Zapp’s potato chips (Best Specialty Po-Boy, 2019/2025).
Kung Fu Tuna: Tataki-style seared tuna with avocado and sushi sauces.
Killer Roast Beef: A traditional favorite frequently cited in local reviews.
The “Boiling Pot”: Known for boils that resemble a backyard gathering rather than a restaurant, using complex seasonings and including whole garlic bulbs, mushrooms, and celery alongside crawfish, shrimp, or crab.
Atmosphere: Casual, no-frills “fishing camp” vibe with indoor seating and a large outdoor area featuring live local music on weekends.
